Gold Bond Brand Founder, Owner, Products, Revenue, Customer Care and more

Founded in 1882, Gold Bond is a brand of skin care products created by the Rhode Island State Medical Association. Over a century later, Arthur W. Guilford took over the formula and began making the product in Fairhaven, Massachusetts. John M. Chapman later bought the rights to the formula and achieved greater brand recognition. In 1930, Timothy F. Shea joined the Gold Bond Sterilizing Powder Company and rose through the ranks to become sole owner of the company in 1965.

In 1987, the Gold Bond company sold the rights to three of its brands, including Gold Bond Powder, to Block Drug Corporation. This led to a national marketing campaign which saw sales increase significantly. The successful brand was later sold to Martin Himmel Inc. in 1990 and then to Chattem in 1996. Chattem is now a subsidiary of the French pharmaceutical company Sanofi.

Gold Bond is used to reduce moisture, control odor, and soothe skin irritations. Spin-off products such as foot powders and baby powder for treating diaper rash have also been developed. Gold Bond has endured over one hundred years of success and continues to be a trusted name in skin care.
