Establishment

Tata Steel established in 26 August, 1907. The company developed India’s first industrial city at Jamshedpur. Tata steel capacity across Indian operations is nearly 13 MnTPA and registered a turnover of US $7889 million in FY 2017. In 2016, set up second greenfield steel plant in the eastern state of Odisha, commissioning the first phase (3 MnTPA) of 8M tones of steel capacity. The company possess and operate captive mines that helps maintain cost-competitiveness and production efficiencies through an uninterrupted supply of raw material.

Founder

Tata steel founded by Jamshedji Tata. He was born on 3 March 1839 at Gujarat. He was an Indian industrialist and the founder of Tata Group. Tata is also known as ‘Father of Indian Industry’. He did graduation from Elphinstone College. He married to Hirabai Daboo and blessed with two children Dorabji Tata and Ratanji Tata. On 19 May 1904, he died.

Recently, the chairman of the company is Ratan N Tata. He joined tata group in 1962. In 1971, he was appointed Director-in-charge of the National Radio Electronics Company Limited. Currently, he serves on the board of directors of Alcoa and is on the international advisory boards of Mitsubishi Corporation, JP Morgan Chase, Rolls Royce and the Monetary Authority of Singapore.
