History

Costa Farms is a family-owned and operated business that was founded by Cuban immigrant Jose Costa in 1961. Initially, the company focused on the production of tomatoes but soon switched to growing nursery plants.

In 1973, the company purchased property in the Dominican Republic to grow young plant material, allowing them to gain control of the supply chain. Costa Farms became even more successful when it began stocking big box retailers with houseplants in the early 1980s.

Now, Costa Farms is in its third generation of family ownership and continues to innovate and look for ways to make greener options available to customers. They have recently introduced a plant wrap to replace traditional plastic containers and have started using coconut coir instead of peat in their plants. The company has come a long way since its humble beginnings and remains committed to providing quality products to customers.
