About the game

A next-generation robot strategy RPG set in a sci-fi alternate reality, in which Starchildren—humans who have been granted special abilities—take on an extraterrestrial threat. Relayer‘s battle system focuses on combat robot types and jobs, which represent a unit’s unique characteristics, and aggro, a stat which visualizes how easily they are targeted by enemies. Relayer also features exciting special attacks such as Backstab, a pincer move, and Big Bang, a move with a vast area of effect. Approximately 100 unique cutscenes play during battles throughout the game, and stage maps are all illustrated in high-quality, full 3D.

The story takes place on Earth in the year 2051, in a future where humanity’s expansion into outer space is in full swing. Earth is in the midst of an invasion by mysterious extraterrestrial beings called Relayers. Humans with special abilities, called Starchildren, have also appeared, along with the legacy of an ancient alien civilization that is said to have died out centuries ago. Players command a squadron of Stellar Gear, humanoid weapons developed from the technology of that extinct alien civilization, and the Asterism, a ship capable of interstellar travel, to defend Earth from the invading Relayer aliens.

Characters

Terra is the protagonist of Relayer. She hosts the will of the planet Earth, but suffers from memory loss. She contracted amnesia during the “GravityLoss” incident, but does remember her regret at letting go and losing her sister Luna. She travels alongside her companion Yodaka. She is voiced by Satomi Akesaka, who also voices Katou Danzou in Fate/Grand Order and Lamretta in Granblue Fantasy.

Yodaka is Terra’s companion. An assistant robot assembled from junk parts, it is equipped with an advanced AI capable of helping Terra in her journey as well as serving as a conversation partner. Though Yodaka refers to Terra as its “Master,” their relationship dynamic in Relayer more of a partnership between equals. Yodaka is voiced by Taiten Kusunoki, who also played Rude in Final Fantasy VII Remake.

Himiko is known as the “First Star,” a Star Child with special authority to gather other Star Children and commit them to the battle with the Relayers over the universe’s fate. She was originally a very ordinary person and an astronomy nerd with a love for the stars. She is voiced by Miku Ito, who voices Kokoro in Bang Dream! and Kokkoro in Princess Connect! Re: Dive.

Luna is Terra’s sister and holds the will of the Moon. Though a Star Child herself, she colludes with Relayer out of a desire to get revenge and to steal something called “The Original One.” She’s voiced by Moe Toyota, who plays Kanon in Bang Dream! and Sapphire in Sound! Euphonium.

Sun is a former ace pilot of the Earth Alliance military. A reliable leader, she commands and guides her subordinates in the battle with Relayer, and is a member of Asterism’s Pilot team alongside Himiko and Terra. She’s voiced by Mie Sonozaki, who also played Subaru Kujou in Sakura Wars V and Viola in One Piece.

Mercury holds the will of the planet Mercury and is seen by many as aloof and emotionless. Secretly though, Mercury is just very focused and hardworking, training to live up to the legacy of her older sister, the previous Mercury. She is voiced by Mariko Honda, who played Yuuko in Nichijou: My Ordinary Life.

Uranus is the ship’s surgeon onboard the Asterism, as well as a Star Child. She took the job for the money, and her focus on rewards reflects in her personality. Though her medical skills are first-rate, she doesn’t actually have a license. She’s voiced by Kumi Sakuma, who played Ciel in Melty Blood and Carnival Phantasm.

Amanogawa holds the will of the Milky Way Galaxy. Heiress to Milky Way Shipbuilding, a top starship construction company. Her privilege gives her a strong sense of noblesse oblige. Deep down, though, she harbors a strong fixation on subcultures. She is voiced by Hitomi Yoshida, who played Mimi in Digimon Adventure tri.

Pluto is actually an avatar for the Asterism’s navigational and system management AI. Since becoming a Star Child requires a living mind, her hosting of the will of Pluto stands as proof that AIs have minds and sentience. She’s voiced by Asami Sanada who played Rani VIII in Fate/Extra and Date A Live‘s Kurumi Tokisaki.

Mars is a world-class esports star. Her piloting skills come both from her esports prowess as well as training from her father. She’s voiced by Hina Kino, who played Atomina in Atelier Firis and Atelier Sophie, and Symphogear‘s Tiki.
