Brookstone Company Owner, Founder, Revenue, Wiki, History and More

Brookstone, established in 1965 and headquartered in Merrimack, New Hampshire, is a chain of retail stores located in the United States and China. It is renowned for its “Hard to Find Tools” catalogs as well as its wide assortment of products – including remote control helicopters and drones, alarm clocks and smartwatches, massage chairs, speakers, iPads and tablet accessories, blankets, pillows, and many other lifestyle items.

In 1973, Brookstone opened its first physical location in Peterborough, New Hampshire. Many of the products sold at Brookstone stores were designed by the company itself and marketed under its own brand (white label). Brookstone stores are usually found in airports and they also run an online webstore.

An interesting thing about Brookstone is that they let customers try out any item in the store before making a purchase.

Bankruptcy

Brookstone filed for bankruptcy in April 2014 under Chapter 11 of the Bankruptcy Code in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware. To complete the process, the company sought out a buyer and was luckily acquired by the parent company of Spencer Gifts for over $173 million. This allowed Brookstone to emerge from bankruptcy in July 2014 and continue to operate its stores as usual.

Unfortunately, Brookstone faced financial hardships again in 2018 and announced the closure of all its mall locations to focus on its website and airport locations. This was followed by the filing of a Chapter 11 bankruptcy and the closure of all 101 U.S. store locations.
